Art Print Frida's New Garden - Frida Kahlo
The Frida Kahlo Museum is located at Casa Azul, or Blue House, Frida's home in Coyoacán, Mexico City. Kahlo was born there in 1907, and after marrying Diego Rivera in 1929, she resided there with him.
Together, the two built a garden that honored the local art of Mexico's native peoples as well as the country's plant life.
Kahlo found solace and inspiration in the garden, and she created one of her works of art there.
Many of these flora made their way into her paintings as well as onto her body (she virtually always wore flowers woven through her hair).
Every day, bouquets of marigolds, blue and calla lilies, white irises, blood-red coxcomb, and red roses were placed on Kahlo's dining room table.
A facsimile of the tiered pyramid that Kahlo and Rivera installed at
Casa Azul to display Rivera’s collection of pre-Hispanic artifacts sits in
their garden.
